Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is kind of like a form of emotional acupuncture and a great way to shift negative emotions in order to create a more positive outlook.
EFT is also known as ‘tapping’ because you literally tap along certain points of your face and body to shift the energy.
How to practise EFT
First pinpoint the root of your problem, the real root, the one root that rules them all – I’m sure you know the one I mean.
Maybe it’s a fear of failure, or even a fear of success. It could be a painful feeling such as loss, envy, self-doubt, or maybe it’s a craving for something you’re trying to quit. Focus on that feeling, repeat exactly what it is.
Now take the first two fingers of your left hand and tap, repeatedly, in the area between the inner left eyebrow and the top of the nose (EB) all the while describing in great detail your biggest sorrows followed by the phrase…
‘It’s OK, because I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.”
For example, “If I mess up this presentation I’ll be heckled.” Now follow with the words “but it’s OK, because I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.“
Move your fingers to the other side of the eyebrow at the side of the eye (SE) and describe your fear again, following with those magic words, “I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.”
Do the same at the top of your cheekbone under your eye (UE) the area above your lip (UN) below the lip and above the chin (CH) then an inch below your collarbone on the right (CB) a couple of inches below the armpit above your rib cage (UA) and finally on the top of your head (TH).
Still with me? Now it’s time to do something really weird (I once saw Paul McKenna do EFT so don’t judge me. He is a mind magician).
Look up to the top left and then down the the bottom right. Now, look top right to the bottom left. Roll your eyes all the way round, clockwise then anticlockwise.
Sing one line of Happy Birthday and then count to ten. Sing Happy Birthday once again (promise this is not a joke!)
Once you’ve completed the part where you look like you may have lost it, finish with one more round of tapping.
