Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is kind of like a form of emotional acupuncture and a great way to work through negative emotions and create a more positive outlook.
First you pinpoint the root of your problem, the real root, the one root that rules them all – I’m sure you know the one I mean. Then you take the first two fingers of your left hand and tap, repeatedly, in the area between the inner left eyebrow and the top of the nose (1) all the while describing in great detail your biggest sorrows followed by the phrase ‘but it’s OK, because I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.”
For example, “If I mess up this presentation I’ll be heckled / shunned from the village.” Now follow with the words “but it’s OK because I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.”
Move your fingers to the other side of the eyebrow (2) and describe your fear again, following with those magic words, “I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.” Do the same at the top of your cheekbone under your eye (3) the area above your lip (4) below the lip and above the chin (5) then an inch below your collarbone on the right (6) a couple of inches below the armpit above your rib cage (7) and finally on the top of your head (8).
Still with me? Now it’s time to do something really weird (I once saw Paul McKenna do EFT so don’t judge me! He is a mind magician) – move your eyes from the top left down the the bottom right. Now, move them top right to the bottom left. Roll your eyes all the way round, clockwise then anticlockwise. Sing one line of Happy Birthday and then count to ten. Sing Happy Birthday again (promise this is not a joke!) Finish with one more round of tapping the fear out and the self-love in ALL THE WAY ROUND from point 1 to 8.
